What the Patients Say;
Karen Beverley here. Sharon Hetherington came to visit me on ward 726 in room 7 Sunday 9th November. Duncan and I chatted to you about our musical family and you showed me your fantastic video of your relative singing at the wedding.
We want to thank you so very much for that time you spent with us and the Monday night programme was brilliant.
We and our daughter were particularly thrilled that you had taken the time to research her and played one of her songs.
She is on YouTube and Spotify. New up beat number entitled Do Nothing is worth a listen.
I'm doing well and taking my time and on course to eventually have a kidney from Duncan.
You do an excellent job there and we hope to see you next time in the Harborne Hospital next door? Kidney up will be in there in a few months.
Sending you love and best wishes
The Beverley familyXx
Well done Sharon !!
BHBN attend Hospitals Christmas Events

The Winter Garden at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital has been lit up for the festive season, after the hospital’s Christmas lights were officially switched on. BHBN Radio were pleased to be invited to attend the event to countdown the Christmas Tree light switch on and provide season music for the event.
The lights of two beautiful 20-foot-tall Christmas trees were officially switched-on by Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust’s Chief Executive Diane Wake, who was accompanied by a mascot dressed up as Rumi, a character from Netflix’s hit film KPop Demon Hunters.
It was the highlight of a day packed with festivities, which included performances from a variety choirs.
BHBN also attended the Christmas Market at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital
We were also proud to be allowed to attend and record the German Market Carol Service at Birmingham Cathedral (St Philips) on the 21st December 2025

Couch to 5k
Find Your Stride - Anytime, Anywhere
By Joy Bourne
Let’s face it—getting fit can feel overwhelming. We’ve all had those bursts of motivation: a new season, a fresh start, maybe even a new pair of trainers. But life has a funny way of getting in the way. Work gets busy. The weather turns. That expensive gym membership? It gathers dust faster than your running shoes.
So what if there was a way to move more, feel better, and boost your wellbeing—all without spending a penny?
Enter Couch to 5K. Yes, running! Or, let’s be honest, jogging (or even power walking) for most of us. The beauty of Couch to 5K is that it meets you where you are—literally. You don’t need a gym, a personal trainer, or any fancy equipment. Just a pair of comfortable shoes and a bit of time.
Created by the NHS, this free app is designed for beginners and gently builds you up to run for 30 minutes non-stop in just nine weeks. And it really works—I should know, I road-tested it myself.
What I love about Couch to 5K is that it’s achievable. You start with short bursts of running interspersed with walking, and before you know it, you’re going further, feeling stronger, and actually looking forward to your next session. Plus, the app lets you choose from a range of friendly voices to coach and encourage you—some familiar, some funny, all motivating.
And if you're not quite ready to commit to running just yet, you can even listen to my personal journey through the programme. I recorded three instalments for hospital radio as I went from complete beginner to someone who could run for a full half hour without stopping. It’s not just about fitness—it’s about confidence, headspace, and reclaiming a little bit of time for you.
Before applying please read through the Recruitment Page on our website www.bhbn.net For further information please email recruitment@bhbn.net.
So whether you’re walking around your local park, jogging through the streets of your neighbourhood, or pacing yourself along hospital corridors on your break—Couch to 5K could be your first step to feeling better in both body and mind.
Because sometimes, the smallest steps lead to the biggest changes
