YOUR STEPS TO BROADCASTING – PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING
Please consider the high level of commitment required to be a member of
a hospital radio station.
Whilst we appreciate that it is voluntary and an enjoyable hobby, we also have a commitment to provide a contracted service to the hospitals we serve and its patients. Therefore your attendance to your allocated programme is as would be expected in any full-time employment, and your social calendar should be arranged around your commitment to BHBN rather than the other way round.
After your interview you will be given a date for training. The joining & training fee is £25.00 (£12.50 For non-salaried). You will need to attend our current training course over a number of weeks including final appraisal.
Do you want to get involved?
We are always looking to strengthen our team with new talent. We do not ‘take people off the street’ and simply put them on air! We look for those who can make a meaningful contribution to our work over a reasonable period of time in our selection process. This means that if you want to join us you have to demonstrate the potential for developing the basic competencies and commitment needed to be a volunteer at BHBN.
As a voluntary organisation, no one is paid at BHBN Hospital Radio.
What kinds of jobs are available?
Not only are we looking for broadcasting staff, but people who are prepared to do Production, Administration, Publicity, IT and Odd Jobs.
So can I apply?
To be considered for an interview you must:
- Be a minimum of 18 years old
- Be of good character with no criminal convictions – a police check may be carried out
- Have the right to live & work in the UK
- Demonstrate potential for, and commitment to, Hospital & Community Broadcasting
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a team
- Live within a reasonable distance of, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, or the hospital you are applying to visit.

If you are invited to interview and audition and are accepted into probationary membership, you progress onto our training course and appropriate duties at the network. We are only looking for volunteers who wish to have a long-term interest in the station and age is certainly not an issue, provided you are over 18.

BHBN Radio are looking for Volunteer Request show Presenters for The Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals Living local to these hospitals or local to our studios at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and own transport would be an advantage. Email recruitment@bhbn.net
Applicants would be subject to DBS checks and interview with the Hospital Volunteer Department.
We also require a presenter for the Tuesday Morning Show broadcast 10am to Midday.

Also we are still looking for Request Collectors to visit patients on the wards of the hospitals we cover to collect requests for our shows whilst promote the use of our Radio App and assist with the download.
