About the National Health
Service
The UK’s National Health
Service is the largest organisation in Europe and employs around
one million people. It was set up in 1948. It aims to deliver a
high quality healthcare service which is mostly free at the
point of use and its services are available to all lawfully
present residents of the United Kingdom.
Local Hospitals and
BHBN HOSPITAL RADIO
Because it is one of the largest
cities in the UK, Birmingham is served by a range of hospitals
that provide an extensive range of healthcare and treatment
facilities. These hospitals have a long history of quality and
pioneering work – as an example, the world’s last smallpox
case was admitted into Heartlands Hospital in 1978.
Most of these hospitals are
provided with a hospital radio service by BHBN.
We work closely with them to ensure that patients continue
benefit from the best quality of
radio possible.
With the introduction of Patient
Media Entertainment such as Patientline & Premier we can guarantee
our service is reaching our listening public, the patient, once
the signal is received at the hospital site. We are currently
providing a service to City Hospital (including the Birmingham
Skin and Eye Hospitals) and Good Hope Hospitals by land
line. The Heartlands Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Womens Hospital are
served by an FM frequency.
