STUDIO 1
NEW
STUDIO DEDICATION EVENING
June Snowden, President of the HBA, and members old and
new joined Mary Tysoe and her family to honour the memory of Dave Tysoe,
long standing BHBN member and sports commentator, who passed away suddenly
in February.

A new state of the art studio, featuring the latest
industry-standard equipment, has been dedicated the Dave Tysoe Studio, and
Mary and June cut the ribbon to declare it officially open.

June Snowden and Mary Tysoe
It was an emotional night for all, as Dave did so much for members old and
new, fundraising and the station as a whole.

Pictured Mary at the desk, with L-R Dave Horton,
Technical Controller- who oversaw the design of the new studio; June
Snowden, President of the HBA and Colin Monnaf, Programme Controller.
Mary was also presented with a Book of Condolence with
members’ memories of Dave, along with pictures of his time at BHBN.

Mary and daughters Linda, Pamela and
Janet.
Dave’s daughter Linda thanked BHBN and June on behalf
of her family, saying it was a great honour and a lasting tribute to the
memory of her Dad. She also warned us to keep an out of any glitches on air
or flickering of lights, as it’ll probably be the spirit of Dave getting up
to a little mischief !
3 HAS
BECOME 1
The old Studio 3 previously a 'Talk
Studio' has been refurbished and has been promoted to STUDIO 1.
On the 12th & 13th August 2010 David
Boulton & Lee Beech from PSquared Ltd
worked tirelessly to install the new furniture and a Sonifex S2 broadcast
desk into the studio. The first "test" programmes were broadcast on
19th August 2010, THE THURSDAY TEATIME SHOW & THE THURSDAY EVENING SHOW.
The new studio is being dedicated to the
memory of a long serving member and
Hon. Secretary, Dave Tysoe who died in February
The opinion of the membership is that it
certainly has the WOW! factor.

LONG
SERVICE AWARDS
BHBN has been broadcasting to Birmingham’s health
community since 1952. Some of our members have been with us for nearly as
long!
Following the station’s AGM and the official opening of
the Dave Tysoe studio, it was the perfect opportunity to recognise the
contributions of some of our longer-serving members.
HBA President June Snowden presents long-service awards
to the following:

Honorary Chairman Charles Allen and
Sports commentator John Arnold and both receive awards for 40 years’ service

Executive Producer Bob
Bartlett recognised for 35 years’ service

David Elliott (Wednesdays) receives thanks for 20 years
of broadcasting and support…

…Facilities Manager and Honorary
Secretary Debbie Mason gets 15 years…

…and Brendan Delaney (Friday evenings,
Saturday mornings) marks his first decade at BHBN.
June went on to congratulate everyone for continuing to
give their valued free time to support the work of BHBN, and reiterated the
importance of the station in helping patients to cope with their stay in
hospital.
THE
SAINTS MARCH ON TO PROMOTION
It may be too early in the football season to talk of promotion
but that is just what this group of youngsters are doing.........promoting
BHBN

When a donation was made to the
Northfield Saints F.C. Under 9's team towards their kit, it was on condition
that the BHBN Hospital Radio logo be printed on the shirts to raise public
awareness of the network.
BHBN's Technical Controller and Director David Horton is the teams Manager
and a founding member of the club. His son Adam Horton, a member of
the
BHBN sports team is his assistant
Being a brand new team only formed in
May 2010, promotion may be a distant dream but as the team competes in the Central Warwicks League and is in a division with ten other teams, they
will be promoting BHBN with the networks logo
resplendent on their shirts

GREAT
MIDLANDS FUN RUN
6th
JUNE 2010

Sunday 6th June 2010 saw the Great
Midlands Fun Run take place again. Several BHBN member's took part in
varying capacities. Dave Elliott was there at the start/finish to see the
runner's on their way and on their return. Debbie, Kelly and Paul actually
took part in the run and once again turned in a satisfying time. In Sutton
Park Andy Day, Bob Bartlett, Chris Friday, Dave & Adam Horton and Bill
Waldron manned the bus giving out encouragement and playing music in
association with BIG CITY RADIO to help the weary runner's, whilst raising
funds and public awareness for the station.

OUR THANKS GO TO BIG CITY RADIO FOR
THE USE OF THEIR BUS

One important mention must go to Dave
Tysoe. Dave had been actively involved with the GMFR for a long time before
he sadly passed away earlier this year. He will be sadly missed for all
sorts of reasons. He would have loved being there
